Constipation Support With a Functional Medicine Practitioner
Going every few days? Straining, feeling like you never fully empty, or needing laxatives, fiber, or magnesium just to go?
Functional medicine for constipation looks past the symptom to find out why your gut slowed down in the first place. I'm Justin, a functional medicine practitioner, and I work with people online, anywhere in the country, to find the root cause and build a plan around it.
Is This You?
-
You go every 2 to 3 days, or it takes real effort
-
You feel like you never fully empty
-
You're bloated and "pumped full of air" by evening
-
Your stools are hard, dry, or pellet-like
-
You need laxatives, fiber, or magnesium to go, and it stops when you stop
-
It started or got worse after antibiotics, stress, travel, or a big life change
-
Brain fog, fatigue, and a belly that won't flatten come along with it
-
You've cut foods and tried probiotics, and it still isn't fixed
Why Constipation Keeps Coming Back
Constipation is a symptom, not the problem. Something is slowing your gut down, and until that gets found, it tends to keep coming back.
Common drivers include slow gut motility, SIBO (especially the methane type), a gut that never rebounded after antibiotics, low stomach acid or poor bile flow, thyroid and hormone shifts, and a stress response that keeps the gut stuck in "slow mode."
Laxatives and fiber can get things moving for a day. They don't ask why it stopped.
How Working With Me Works
Step 1: Tell Me the Full Story
We start with a free 15-minute call. You tell me what's happening, what you've tried, and when it started. No pressure, just a real conversation about whether I can help.
Step 2: Find What's Driving It
We look at your timeline, your symptoms, and your patterns, and the free Gut Motility Symptom Tracker helps with that. Testing is never automatic. Depending on your situation, I may recommend a test such as a stool test, a SIBO breath test, or a hormone test, and other tests, or none, may make more sense for you.
Step 3: Build Your Plan
You get a personal plan built around what's actually going on in your gut, not a one-size-fits-all list. We adjust it as your body responds.
What You Can Expect
People come to me wanting to go regularly without straining, to stop feeling bloated by evening, and to feel like themselves again, with steadier energy and a clearer head.
Every body is different, so I won't promise a timeline. I will promise to be straight with you about what I find and what I'd do about it.

Constipation Questions
Why am I constipated even though I eat fiber and drink water?
Fiber and water only help if your gut is moving the way it should. When motility is slow, or something like SIBO or a disrupted microbiome is involved, adding more fiber can actually make bloating worse. That's why finding the root cause matters more than adding more of the same thing.
Can SIBO cause constipation?
Yes. The methane-producing type of SIBO is strongly linked to constipation because it slows the gut down. A SIBO breath test is one tool that can help sort out whether this applies to you.
Do I have to do testing?
No. Testing is only recommended when it will change the plan. Some people need it and some don't, and I'll tell you honestly which group you're in.
Can you help if I've been constipated for years?
Many people who come to me have dealt with it for years, and that's exactly when finding the root cause matters. Long-standing constipation usually has more than one layer, and we work through them in order.
Do I need to live in Fort Worth?
No. I work with clients online, anywhere in the United States, right from home.
Ready to Stop Guessing?
You've tried the fiber, the magnesium, the probiotics. Let's find out why it's still happening.
