Post-Antibiotic Gut Dysfunction Case Study
Repeated antibiotic use can sometimes be followed by lasting changes in digestion, bowel habits, immune balance, and overall health.
This case involved a 53-year-old woman with a long history of repeated antibiotic use over several years, primarily related to recurring sinus infections and other illnesses. Mold exposure was also part of her history. By the time we began working together, she was dealing with IBS, SIBO, psoriasis, and ongoing digestive dysfunction.
The Starting Point
The client had taken multiple rounds of antibiotics over the years and continued to struggle with recurring digestive and inflammatory symptoms.
Her primary concerns included:
☐ IBS symptoms
☐ SIBO
☐ Psoriasis
☐ Ongoing digestive dysfunction
☐ A history of repeated antibiotic exposure
She was looking for a more comprehensive approach rather than continuing to manage each symptom separately.
What We Looked At
We looked at the broader health picture, including her history of repeated antibiotic use, digestive symptoms, gut function, lifestyle patterns, mold exposure, and other factors that could be contributing to ongoing imbalance.
Rather than focusing on one diagnosis alone, the goal was to understand how her history and symptoms might be connected.
The Approach
We worked together for approximately one year.
The program focused on rebuilding foundational health and supporting gut function through an individualized approach that included nutrition, lifestyle changes, digestive support, and ongoing adjustments based on her progress.
The plan evolved over time rather than relying on a single short-term intervention.
What Changed
Over the course of the year, the client reported significant improvement.
By the end of the program:
☐ SIBO symptoms had resolved
☐ IBS symptoms had resolved
☐ Psoriasis had cleared
☐ Digestive symptoms were no longer controlling her daily life
What This Case Shows
This case highlights why long-term digestive symptoms may require looking beyond the symptom itself.
A history of repeated antibiotic exposure can be an important part of the health picture, especially when digestive problems, skin symptoms, and other whole-body concerns develop over time.
It also shows why meaningful improvement may require consistency, patience, and an individualized plan rather than a quick fix.
